Surprisingly, Vietnamese restaurants have started popping up in Helsinki. One I like to frequent, in the gorgeous neighbourhood of Kruununhaka, is No5 Coffee.
The name of the restaurant is quite misleading, as it does not in any way imply that inside you might find some very good Phô. Do not let that deter you though.
The restaurant is very busy during lunch hours, so if you are in a hurry, go at 11 o’clock sharp. The table by the window is for anyone flexible enough to sit comfortably on the floor.
Otherwise, the decor is very Scandinavian.
The owner’s husband bakes the most delicious bread. You might not associate bread with Vietnamese food. But Finns love to have bread with their lunch, so I’m sure this is why it’s on offer. Do have a taste. Coffee or tea is also included in the lunch price.
Now for the actual lunch dishes. The food is freshly made and very tasty. I have tested each dish, so I know what I’m talking about.
How about some Chà nem, ie. Vietnamese spring rolls? The portion is huge. The fresh spring rolls are also really good.
I love their Phô. You can choose to have it with beef or chicken or even both. I go for chicken. I love how there’s lots of cilantro to top it with.
Chicken with noodles – Gà xào sả.
Cơm đậu phụ also known as tofu with rice. The mint leaves go so well with both these dishes.
The restaurant is open Mon-Fri from 10-17.
Address:
Kirkkokatu 5
00170 Helsinki
Are you familiar with Vietnamese food? What are your favourite dishes?

Wow, I passed through this restaurant but did not notice it at all! Great review! Just some adjustments in the Vietnamese language. It is “Phở” and “Chả nem” 🙂 Others are correct!

You should try Vietnamese Phở in Asia Aroma restaurant, located at Hämeentie 101. Their Phở (along with other Vietnamese dishes) are the most authentic in town. As a Vietnamese, I can guarantee that 🙂

We have Vietnamese cuisine in KL – here and there – but not as common as Thai food.
