If we were having coffee, I would tell you that this week has been filled with flowers and sunshine.
Finally, after last weeks’ sickness, I was feeling well enough to go back to work on Monday. In the midst of my day, my friend Niina texted me to ask if we should go and sort out my FIL’s garden. Luckily I didn’t have anything in my calendar, so after work we got together and drove to Plantagen. In a moment, the trunk of the car looked like this.
We have been making sure FIL’s garden looks great for years now. Niina is actually the expert and I just follow along and do what she says. What is great about this arrangement is that FIL gives us free hands to choose whatever flowers we like. Which means that his garden is very pink every year, LOL!
An interesting thing for work was visiting The Helsinki Mother and Child Home Association. This statue is beside their front door. If you live in Finland and are looking into supporting a good cause, this may well be it. And it’s so easy too, as all you need to do is go to the supermarket and buy some stuff and drop it off – they need all kind of supplies for mothers and babies. The NGO produces very important child welfare support services for families in crisis expecting a baby or who already have a child.
I have been wanting to go up to the Kallio church tower in Helsinki since I read on someone’s blog (sorry I forget who!) that they had somehow managed to get access to it. When going up the creaky and freaky stairs I started to understand why it’s not open for everyone to climb up. The view was amazing, so stay tuned for awesome pictures of Helsinki from above the roofs in a separate post.
Of course, the best thing about the week was the opening of the brand new outdoor swimming pool in Leppävaara, Espoo. There are two outdoor pools in Helsinki but Espoo has never had one before. I was one of the first ones to test it on Monday morning, the rain didn’t faze me!

I’d like to climb up the church in Kalio, how did you get in? Could we just go and ask them? 🙂

You would need to contact the congregation and ask them if a visit would be possible at the time you would be around. I don’t think you should just show up because the people working there are really busy with their daily work. The church in itself is open to anyone, but for the tower you need special access.

Sounds like a fun week 😉 Waterslides with grannies and special entry to a forbidden tower! (which I’d like to visit too, how did you manage to?)

I am sure you will be able to swing a visit to the tower, just contact the Kallio congregation and ask them if you could go 🙂 It took some months to organize the exact date but it worked out fine!

Oh sorry, FIL means father-in-law!! 🙂 He has been loving his garden all week now, it’s such a joy to know doing such a small thing as planting flowers gives someone so much pleasure!

I’m looking forward to the pictures from that church. In Sao Paulo, Brazil, there’s also a building you can go up and take beautiful cityscapes.

I’ve just been reading your post whilst sipping a cappuccino – so I’m joining you for Friday morning coffee in the virtual world! I had hoped to do some planting in our garden but it’s been a bit chilly or wet when I’ve had the chance. My nice new camera arrived two days ago so I’m practising taking shots and getting use to it.
