If we were having coffee, I would serve you a cappuccino or a latte and ask if you’d like to have an extra shot of espresso in it, as I really need one. Hopefully it would be warm enough to sit on the balcony, but I do have blankets if it isn’t so. Once we’d settled down, I’d ask you how you were. After hearing your news, I’d tell you that my weeks have been so busy lately that my caffeine intake has doubled. What I really need now is a day off just lounging at home.

Last Friday I had gone to work by car which isn’t very usual for me. So as I was leaving for the weekend, I realized what a perfect opportunity it would be to visit the Rhododendron Park in Helsinki. I missed the sakura this year, so there was no way I was going to miss the rhododendrons! A post will follow. I notice how I keep saying that I’ll write post on this and that but seriously, they are all coming in time!

We had a super busy weekend. On Saturday our son had his last day of school before the start of the summer holidays. Our daughter Em and I went to school to see his class recieve their report cards. I’m happy to tell you that he did well. Unfortunately the school is now going to move because they have found actinomycetes and other dangerous mildew there. As next year is going to be his last year in the school, it felt quite sad. Em has also attended this school when she was small.

Then it was time to get ready for Em’s childhood friend’s graduation party. It’s unbelievable how fast the girls have grown up. Em graduated last year. The years pass by so fast, I can hardly keep up.

The family lives in a lovely house – they even have a hot tub! It was such a beautiful day, not too hot and not too cold. Just perfect for sitting outside on their huge terrace.

On Sunday we had another party – a christening for hubby’s cousin’s baby. The baby is such a cutie, she has huge eyes like blueberries.

The service was in English as the baby’s daddy is from the States. The priest did well but she seemed a bit nervous when the baby cried. I would imagine that she’d be used to that! The baby’s Godmom who was holding her throughout the service is a mom of three, so I wasn’t worried.

There were three different cakes and sweets from Fazer. The most impressive was the savoury cake which the baby’s grandmother had made. Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of it, so you will just have to trust me on this one.

I’m a fan of Café Daja in Kruununhaka but this week my colleagues and I tried restaurant Kruna‘s lunch twice. It’s a very cosy restaurant and has become one of my favourites in the area. We had a going away dinner there for a colleague last year.

Our boat’s inspection by our yacht club was on Tuesday. You have to have your boat inspected to check that all the equipment needed is there, as only after you pass can you use the club’s flag.

If you’re into birds, then you might be interested in the area where hubby and I took a walk on Thursday – Suomenoja bird pool. Not a particularly pretty place as it’s right next to a heating plant but it’s full of water birds.

This place is a photographers paradise. You can get quite close to the birds and there’s also two observation towers.

I need to go back as I now only had my Canon Powershot G9x and you need to have a powerful zoom to get good shots.

    congrats to your son for finishing the school year 🙂 is he going to a different school with different teachers and class next year?
    and I’m so impressed the priest was a woman, I wish I can see a woman priest in the Eastern Orthodox church too… 🙂

    1. The whole school has to move 😦 But they will do so with the teachers. So the only change is the school building actually and where it’s at – shouldn’t be too difficult I hope, they are even arranging bus transport for everyone.

      Female priests are quite common here. Our daughter had a lady priest way back in her christening too! 🙂

  6. I enjoyvyour post as I learn a little about Finland. The birds pictures were of interest. I wonder about name ofvthe birds. They looked like our shovelers. What faith was the baby christen?

    1. Hi Betty Louise! So lovely to have you visit. I have to admit that I’m hopeless with birds, I really have to try to learn some for next time I visit. They actually have photos of the birds and names stated on them, so that will be very helpful! In Finland most of us are Lutheran, the baby now too 🙂

  12. I really enjoyed reading your post. I live in Australia and it’s really interesting to experience this virtual tour of Finland..or at lest dip a toe in. Your statue share sounds interesting. I remember playing musical statues as a kid…a great challenge for so many of us wrigglewarts.

  14. I love reading your Friday post, Suvi. 🙂 Well, since last week we were in Calgary, CA, this week was all about catching up: housework, friends, cats, yoga… I still haven’t caught up with my diet though. Next week I’ll get into that.

  17. What a lovely week for you again Suvi. We’ve had quite a busy week too. Our elder son was home for the weekend so we had a shopping trip and lunch out in Harrogate on Friday, then we all went to see a play that evening called ‘One Last Hitch’ which we enjoyed. On Saturday evening some friends came to dinner and we had planned to cook on the barbecue but dark clouds appeared and although it didn’t rain, we ate indoors. On Sunday, another friend visited us and we had a long walk as it was so sunny – the nice weather continuing all week (until this morning!)
