Those of you who know me personally know that I love Christmas. And one of my favourite things about Christmas are the lights. This Sunday my Singaporean friend Ivy and I experienced the magic of Christmas as the traditional Christmas lights on the Aleksanteri Street in Helsinki were turned on. The design has stayed almost the same since 1949.
Have you had a chance to observe the Christmas season being welcomed to your city? Let me know in the comments below.
xx
These lights remind me of the wonderful cold winter days I spent in Helsinki almost two years ago. They add such a warm glow to the snowy streets, especially on those short, dark days. I loved visiting your cozy city!

Thank you, I hope you will be back 🙂 Unfortunately all our snow has now melted, so we are very thankful for all the Christmas lights! It would be nice to have a white Christmas though.

Ooh Singapore and Malaysia know how to do Christmas decorations! It’s never so full-on over here. Even when I was a child in the 80s it was amazing. I remember visiting hotels with my mom to look at what they had put out (and have high tea in the process heheh).

We love Christmas lights & decorations too! We’ve had several walks/runs to absorb the ambience, the lights & sights.

It looks beautiful! We have some great Christmas markets in our city but have held off visiting just for now – our son is desperate though so it will be on the agenda soon!

Heheh sounds like you son is like me! I would like to visit the Christmas markets in Germany, apparently they have the best ones there 🎄

I’ve just spent a weekend in London at the start of their Christmas festivities. I also love the Christmas lights and the little wooden huts on the market with their twinkling lights! Our small town is switching on its lights next weekend so we will go and sing carols around the big tree. Christmas is so magical!

Ooh singing carols around the Christmas tree sounds so lovely! I can’t get enough of Christmas this time of year. But it’s funny, after the 26th I start getting anxious to put everything away in order to welcome the new year 😅

Gosh, we keep all our decorations up until 6th January but I have to move some of the Christmas cards before then to make way for my birthday cards!!

I just spend a long weekend in Copenhagen and the city was full of pretty Christmas lights and very atmospheric Christmas markets. Tivoli had been transformed into a magical Christmas wonderland. So beautiful!

Christmas is my absolute favorite time of the year! But as a true American, I am finding it difficult to be in Europe as the festivities are starting rather early in my opinion… it’s not even Thanksgiving yet! 😀 Luckily Thanksgiving is this Thursday so after that I can be 100% in the Christmas spirit!

I know what you mean, Caroline, about a little early. Here in Singapore, our Christmas street lights were turned on more than a week ago!

It’s never too early for Christmas! November is such a dark time here that we need something to lift our spirits. But I do understand you Caroline as you have Halloween and Thanksgiving to look forward to first 😊
