Weekly Favourites

Just like that we have started 2017! I hope this year turns out to be great for you all. I’ve had a busy week as always, getting back to the groove of work again.

You could say I spent New Year’s Eve in the kitchen. First I had our daughter Em and her boyfriend over for lunch. I made three different kinds of pie. Em’s favourite is a shrimp pie. The other one was pepperoni and the third goat’s cheese/tomato.

In the evening BIL came over. I made a Turkish meze buffet. It was nice but took hours to prepare, next time I would opt more for ready-made products.

There was a huge party in Helsinki to celebrate the New Year but we were too lazy to go anywhere. I tried to spot fireworks from our balcony but most of them were at the other side of the hill. All my photos of the fireworks failed!

On Sunday I went to explore the nearby walking routes. I found out that they are building new paths in the forest which is great – more choice for walks. There were some people playing frisbee golf at the field nearby.

I’ve started to watch The Crown on Netflix. I love it, have you seen it yet? I’m also watching Bloodline, Designated Survivor and Sense8. I don’t watch regular tv anymore at all.

I was still on holiday on Monday. My mom came over for lunch and we went shopping for a bit. On Tuesday it was back to work again. I’ve only been to work for three days and I’m absolutely exhausted. Thank goodness Friday is a holiday again! On Tuesday I went to the Helsinki Art Museum (HAM) to see Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s exhibit. It’s so cool!

My colleagues introduced me to a new restaurant called Cafferino Oba. The food was so good and I can’t wait to go again. This was the goat’s cheese pasta – look at that cheese on top, yum. Next time I’m going to try their warm pita breads accompanied by a salad.

We’re back to winter over here. Everything is white again and it’s so cold. It’s been around -15 Celsius but with the biting wind it’s equivalent to – 28 Celsius!!

This weekend I’m going to check out Lux Helsinki. It’s a light festival in Helsinki which is on till the 9th January. I can warmly recommend it, as it was awesome last year. Check out my post on it here.

Let me know how the first week of 2017 has been for you in the comments below!

xx

    1. Hey there! I’m not sure if The Crown is your thing, but I recommend you give it a try 🙂 Some say it’s too slow but if you love London, then it’s for you! Thanks for visiting and good luck with your blogging ventures xx

    1. Happy New Year Karoliina! Hehe, yes – work filled reality check really does describe the first week very well. Schools start next week so then it will be even more of a reality check with hobbies starting and all that.. yikes!

  2. Brrrr it is very cold indeed! I went to see Lux Helsinki on Thursday night, gorgeous pieces again but gosh it was freezing cold.

I absolutely loved Yayoi Kusama’s exhibition too, so much colour and crazy polka dots. I think I will revisit before it closes. Btw I missed out the centennial kick off party at New Year too but luckily they showed it on tv so we had the best seats 🙂

    1. Wow, sounds like it’s not that warm in your part of the world either Alexandra! In Finland nothing closes down however cold… Light festival photos are coming up tomorrow! Hahah, you have to come and visit and I’ll cook for you. Although I must say that I’m not usually excited about cooking – I think it has something to do with a new kitchen 😛 Bundle up warmly and enjoy the start of the week!

  4. Yum, I love pies. I’m looking forward to us maybe moving to a bigger flat this year, so maybe I can finally learn to cook! Our current tiny flat in the center of town is one of those old (but beautiful) buildings which doesn’t have a proper kitchen. You seem to hang around the same areas of town as I do, you must work somewhere near where I live, I’ve assumed 😄 If I see you on the street some day, don’t be surprised if I say hi! 😉 I saw that Japanese polka dot exhibition too, it was very interesting! Especially the wax figure of the artist behind a glass – a bit creepy! 😊

    1. Your apartment sounds lovely – how cool to live in the centre of Helsinki! A small kitchen is a good excuse to eat out 😛 Yes, do come and say hello if you spot me – after all I don’t know what you look like, LOL. I used to work in Kruununhaka which is a gorgeous area but Kamppi is way more happening! Omg yes, the wax figurine was so strange.. but very interesting too..

  5. Happy New Year Suvi! Hope you are wrapped up warm for the bitterly cold you are experiencing. It’s below freezing here, too but not as extreme as in Finland. Yesterday we took the decorations down. The tree was still quite fresh so there weren’t too many pine needles to sweep up when we took it out of the house. My friend was talking only yesterday about watching The Crown on Netflix, I haven’t seen it yet. Right now I’m reading ‘How to Hygge’ making me feel warm and cosy.

    1. Ooh How to Hygge sounds like a great book to me! Good for you with not having so many pine needles around, I felt that I could still find them at Midsummer when we had a real tree 😛 I’m loving The Crown and of course London ❤ Have a great Sunday Marion!

  6. Loved The Crown. Can’t wait for the second season. And the shot of the lanterns from the art exhibit is wonderful. You have had a busy first week of the year. 🙂
