This year Finland celebrates 100 years of Independence. The centenary year means many exciting celebrations throughout the year. One of these was the Air Show at Kaivopuisto in last Friday.
At first, I had not intention of going as I’m not really that passionate about air shows. But then one of my colleagues mentioned that she was going to go with her family. She seemed so enthusiastic about it, that I just had to go and see it all for myself.
I must say, I was very glad I went in the end. The area of Kaivopuisto park and shoreline was full of people. Around 130 000 in fact – making it the biggest public event ever in Finland! In addition, boats were lined up to see the planes flying above.
Helsinki was basking in sun and the skies were clear – perfect weather for such an event.

It truly is exciting to see Helsinki bustling with people, even though it’s not Vappu.
The early birds got places to sit.
It took me over an hour to find my son and hubby as the telephone network was saddled down with all the people trying to make calls and I was unable to make contact.
Once I finally found my crew, I could concentrate on the displays.
The Finnair Airbus A350 flying low was quite a sight!
But my favourite show was the Royal Air Force’s Red Arrows.
Exhilarating!
Hmm.. what’s this – a bird?
A bigger bird?
Oh it’s a heart! ❤
RAF’s present to a 100 year old Finland was the blue and white finish.
A Finnish Hornet doing a solo fly. This couple was so cute!
The Finnish Air Force’s Midnight Hawks.
Last, the cute seaplanes took off.
Did you go to see the show? What were your impressions?

Looks like everyone went here apart from me. I did hear those planes though, but did not see any 😦

Lovely set of gorgeous photos. I did not visit there, because when I worked in Ramp Control, I had possibility to see few air shows.

How cool you got to see the Red Arrows!! Looks like a fun day out, I’m not too mad on air shows but this looks great – loving those blue skies too.

I must say the pilots were very skilled and their performance was my favorite ❤️ I wouldn’t mind seeing them again in fact!

Thanks for photos! I attended the first part and left after Finnair A350. After that I’ve been following some of the parts from the balcony as we live quite close to the park. Seagulls that usually hang out in the inner yard were quite distressed because it was so loud and they didn’t realise what was going on 🙂 I was also not that amazed at the idea of the airshow at the beginning, but I do think it was awesome 🙂

Ooh you had an excellent view point from your balcony and the comforts of home nearby 👌 I was quite afraid that a seagull would poop on my head as I saw many people being targeted 😳

I also kind of missed the ads but apparently all media was full of it beforehand?! A mystery!
