In all fairness, I must admit that I haven’t been sailing all this time. This summer has just been too busy to blog! I hope to get back on track as of now. It’s been months since I wrote a Weekly Favourites post. I think the last time was in April. So much has happened since then but I will try to do a quick recap on some of the highlights.
In April my friend from Denmark, Lene, flew in. I think this was her third time in Helsinki. The best part of her stay was – of course – catching up. We also enjoyed a korvapuusti (Finnish cinnamon bun) at Café Regatta, the Design Museum, wine at Latva and visiting the public sauna at Löyly among other things. You can read this post to get an idea of what we got up to. I’m glad to tell you that Lene will be back in November.
In May our son went for a school exchange to France! It was quite exciting as he’d never been on an exchange before. Everything went well and I’m sure he gained more confidence at speaking French.

June was very eventful, as the summer months tend to be up here in the North. We finally managed to get our boat into the water! This Spring was very cold and it delayed getting everything ready.
June was also a month of celebration, as both my daughter and I received news that we’d been accepted to study. Cheers! or Kippis! as we tend to say in Finland.
I visited Kotka for the first time ever. It was a work trip but we had some time for play as well and discovering the beautiful parks in the city. I will do a post on them later.
Later in the month, my colleagues and I visited the public sauna on Lonna island. It was one of the best saunas I have visited. Too bad it’s closing for the season now. I’m glad to have co-workers who love discovering Helsinki’s saunas. We also visited Kaurilan sauna this Spring.
July was my holiday month and it started with a Guns ‘n Roses gig in Hämeenlinna. I was such a fan when I was what.. 18! OMG. I still love them. Too bad it took us two hours (!!!) to get out of the car park and in the end we were home at five am.
On my first week of holiday, we spent a few days taking apart a woodshed from our backyard. I never thought it would be such hard work! Then, we sailed for three weeks in Finland and Estonia. We discovered many new places in both countries and forgot all about our daily chores and work.
At the very end of July I managed to catch fellow blogger Marion before she flew back home. We had a fun day of exploring Lake Tuusula and some of the museums there. Marion is writing posts about her month in Finland at the moment, I suggest you check them out! I hope to see Marion again soon, maybe in the UK if the stars are right.
In August I returned to work for a week after which I went back on holiday (!!) as my friend from Malaysia and her American boyfriend came to visit. You can imagine that the week they were with us was a whirlwind of sightseeing. Everything happened so fast that I’m still thinking it must have been a dream that my friend was here!
After that, it was time to start work again and now I’m back on track with my routine. Which I hope includes blogging. September will be a month of change, as I start school and most importantly, my daughter does too and also moves out to live with her boyfriend! I guess Fall always is a turning point with the weather cooling and the days becoming darker.
How are you and how did your summer go? Let me know in the comments below.
xx
