At the moment I’m awaiting summer excitedly. The sun has been shining almost everyday, the weather has warmed and I feel much more energetic than during the dark winter.
One of the things I love about Finnish summer is spending time by the sea. My favourite moments are warm nights (we had lots of those last summer – usually all nights in Finland are cool) and sunsets. Most of all I love the pink which sunsets sometimes paint on the sky.
Last summer, I saw the most spectacular sunset on an island known as Jurmo. The island is located far out in the Turku Archipelago. It was like watching fireworks on the sky, I’ve never seen anything like it. Here’s a video to transport you there.

Do you have a special sunset that you still remember?

All have such a beautiful glow, but I particularly love the one with the boats and their masts!

Beautiful images! Wow 🙂 I wonder if you know of any nice seaside places I could experience without having my own boat? As for your question, my fave sunset was one we saw in Aruba, it was unreal, the sky so red and moody!

Wow a sunset in Aruba sounds fabulous! Do you mean places near Helsinki or further on? One place where the sunset is glorious is Isosaari island (on the restaurant terrace) but I’m not sure what time the last boat of the evening takes you back. It’s an interesting island to explore as well. Last summer I wanted to go to Pentala island but didn’t have the time. I’ve been to the restaurant with our own boat but the island wasn’t so welcoming (with ropes marking private property). Last summer a museum and other activities opened to bigger audiences. The Lonna sauna is really cool, I recommend making a trip there with friends! 🙂
