This summer I got an urge to discover Uunisaari Island on a summery night. The island is one of my favourites but I’ve previously only visited in the winter months.

Last summer I visited Helsinki’s Vallisaari with Katy, a fellow blogger from the States, on our island hopping escapade. At the time, staying the night on the island on your own boat was forbidden. When I heard that it was finally possible this year, hubby, son and I headed there for a short weekend getaway.
I’ve been very quiet on the blog front recently as I’ve been very busy with all kinds of stuff, mostly our boat. I never realized getting a boat ready for the summer was so much work! This year Finland celebrates 100 years of Independence. The centenary year means many exciting celebrations throughout the year. One of these was the Air Show at Kaivopuisto in last Friday.
Yesterday I made my way to the Roihuvuori neighbourhood to catch a glimpse of the evanescent cherry blossoms at the Kirsikkapuisto (Cherry Park). There’s not many places to see sakura in Helsinki and if you are not quick to go when the flowers have bloomed, you might miss the whole event!
